My journey with sewing started in the summer of 2018. I was living and working on the San Juan Ridge outside of Nevada City, California. The first things I explored making were hats with stones wrapped in elk hide. I had ideas for customizing some of my clothes and with some encouragement from friends, I learned how to use a sewing machine—the rest is history. I started customizing my hats, jackets, vests, and overalls. I never thought I would turn the hobby into a business; I was just working on art projects for myself, and I was having a blast doing it!
Fast forward to the Spring of 2021, I moved to Reno and was settling into my new home. I had a broken ankle and couldn't work. A friend of mine offered me a spot at an art bazaar in Olympic Valley. At this point, I never thought that anyone would buy the clothes that I made, but because I had no other option for work, I said yes to the event. I made around 20 women's garments for that event and sold every single one, along with some shirts and hats. That weekend ended up being a huge turning point in my life and changed everything—Ridgeworks was created.
I realized when I learned how to use a sewing machine that there are endless options for customizing clothes. I would take one of my garments that I wasn't excited about and never wore that much, and would add something to it, quickly converting it into one of my favorite things to wear. That's what Ridgeworks is all about—breathing new life into old things. I am continuing to learn and grow as a person and the brand will do the same. Stay tuned, lots of exciting stuff to come!
